Pros

-Union fights for you even if you're a useless drain on the company -Highest top rate for a mig welder in ontario with a 4 year grow in and TONS of overtime [its possible to make 100k+ in your first year] -One of the only companies left that contractually offer a cost of living allowance to pad wages as inflation increases -Great pension and above average benefits -Work you do is really cool -Lots of good people to work with that will help you with anything you could need -If you do your job they never bother you

Cons

-Union fights for you even if you're useless drain on the company -Management turnover is high and like everywhere else you work its a disorganized mess half the time -Managers hands are tied, union makes it very difficult to discipline problem causing employees to the point most are now complacent and don't care -While you may like your supervisor the Area Managers they work for are either clueless or evil depending on what shift you work. -Lots of useless DEI hires that you end up picking up the slack for -Day shift is full of boomers that do nothing while waiting to retire so you can't get on days for 5+ years

Pros

-median pay -great out of college.. will hire anyone -1 day a week remote, mgmt can be more flexible

Cons

-working with govt -VPs will underbid every contract to get the business, then act surprised when cost is over budget -salary increases and bonuses rarely break 3%, though our direct customer inflates the dollar double that annually (and C suite takes a few tens of millions in personal bonuses) -management treats employees like livestock
