Pros
Most people working at Goalcast are inspiring and so welcoming. The location is top notch. It has a very fun office vibe. It doesn’t even feel like an office. I loved the open concept and fun vibe. Goalcast is such a great opportunity for those wanting to start a career in content creation. You really learn loads.
Cons
I’m masking my manager’s pronouns to protect the privacy of those involved in this review (myself included). My task was to find celebrity stories to pitch that could potentially go viral. However, the formula for a “good” story was at times impossibly specific. I often discussed with my manager how these criteria were unrealistic and suggested a more flexible approach to include heartfelt videos that people can definitely relate to. A good story would be shelved if even one criterion was not met. I read a review about an “abrasive” manager and, regretfully, I can confirm this. He/she made my job very difficult, not just because of the rigid formula, but also due to his/her poor interpersonal skills. He/she snapped at team members, including me, which affected my performance. His/her lack of approachability and empathy made the work environment feel unsafe and stressful. I worked in fear, scrambling desperately to find stories suited for him/her rather than stories with beautiful messages of perseverance. Despite his/her intelligence and impeccable organization, he/she lacked the skills to motivate human beings. I decided to speak to him/her directly. The atmosphere remained uncomfortable. Ultimately, I decided to leave, despite loving the company and my coworkers. When I informed him/her, he/she announced my departure the very next day in our daily meeting without giving me the chance to share the news myself, catching me off guard. I had no time to prepare in real time. I didn’t even get the chance to inform my close coworkers that I would have two weeks left. I felt as though I had no agency for my own decision/news to share. After I left, the company changed the storytelling format, validating my initial suggestions. So that felt good and the videos are better! I wrote this review because Goalcast claims to take surveys seriously, but nothing was done about the issues I raised (even in the surveys that I personally filled out). This experience overshadowed the fun times with my coworkers and left me disappointed. I still love Goalcast videos, but I wish my experience there had been so much different. I reckon I’d still be there to this day if otherwise.
