Pros
If you have pets, it’s a good temporary job to have. You get free food once a month and employees pay the actual cost not the retail price.
Cons
Company has lost its way. When I joined the company they were very family oriented and really cared about their employees. Almost everyone at corporate had been promoted from the stores and it really seemed like we were all a part of something special. Once they acquired Pet People and doubled in size, they went full corporate. I think in the last 18 months they’ve replaced the majority of the corporate staff. They don’t promote from within stores anymore and they removed all the little things that made it seem like they cared about us (store manager meetings, team meals, Saturday lunch, forcing us to do cycle count and monthly meetings on same day, etc) They also do not care as much about the product they sell. They tell us to focus on the brands that aren’t necessarily the best. Used to be make sure the dogs and cats get the right thing to help them, now it’s more like sell these certain products regardless if it’s what’s best for that customer.
