Pros
- great mission to support - everyone I worked with was nice which made it tolerable
Cons
While the organization promotes a strong mission around mental health, the job itself wasn’t good for my mental health for multiple reasons and I’ve listed some below: - I often felt that compensation did not align with the workload and expectations. There seemed to be an underlying narrative that passion for the cause should offset the low pay and increasing demands, which over time felt unsustainable for work-life balance and in a bad economy. - Burnout was a significant issue, the workload and pace often felt intense without adequate support. - At times, it felt difficult to say no to additional responsibilities without risking being overlooked or seen as difficult. - Boundaries were not always respected, which contributed to stress levels and high turnover. - Growth opportunities were limited as most promotions seemed to stay within upper management. Staff who took on leadership responsibilities often led to no meaningful growth and just an added responsibility to their existing role. - There also appeared to be a disconnect between executive leadership and staff, and internal challenges were not always visibly addressed despite the organization’s strong external reputation of supporting mental well-being.
