Pros

Love my team and the overall vision, promising investments in software

Cons

I have seen layoffs at many companies in my career and can honestly say that the approach, messaging, and how the aftermath is handled at STEMCELL is one of the worst in all of Canada. It's clear that it's being driven by people with no experience apart from STEMCELL who are just taking wild guesses at what the "best practices" are. No job security even for high performers. Mission critical departments with a track record of success in accomplishing objectives are disproportionately affected by layoffs while "nice to have" positions remain in tact and the departments that are completely failing to meet their expected contributions are barely touched and certainly not being held accountable. If you're skilled in manufacturing, operations, project management, quality, IT or marketing, stay away. You will not be appreciated.

Pros

Good quality products. Dedicated individual contributors, intelligent colleagues.

Cons

Living in a bubble. They still think they are in the 90s. The thinking is painstakingly slow. Senior management including VPs and senior VPs are extremely inbred in their thinking. They are all perfectly aligned in completely wrong direction. They do the bare minimum and some cannot even hold a decent intellectual conversation. There is a ton of favoritism and only yes men get promoted so everyone is ‘aligned’. If you want to do mundane level thinking and kill your creativity and innovative spirit join this company. It has gotten worse in the last few years. Those currently there are dying to leave but just hanging by the last thread just because the current market is so tight that there is nowhere to go. The senior execs are there for 15-20 years no because they are loyal but because they know they cannot find any other employer who would tolerate their slow thinking.
