Pros

Love my team and the overall vision, promising investments in software

Cons

I have seen layoffs at many companies in my career and can honestly say that the approach, messaging, and how the aftermath is handled at STEMCELL is one of the worst in all of Canada. It's clear that it's being driven by people with no experience apart from STEMCELL who are just taking wild guesses at what the "best practices" are. No job security even for high performers. Mission critical departments with a track record of success in accomplishing objectives are disproportionately affected by layoffs while "nice to have" positions remain in tact and the departments that are completely failing to meet their expected contributions are barely touched and certainly not being held accountable. If you're skilled in manufacturing, operations, project management, quality, IT or marketing, stay away. You will not be appreciated.

Senior management is in their delulu era

Pros

Good benefits, decent pay, good people to work with. At one point, there was solid career development potential and employees were valued and listened to.

Cons

The return-to-office messaging has been chaotic (no concrete plans, timeline, or business case), and straight-up disrespectful and condescending towards employees. This especially stings having regularly worked weekends/extra hours remotely to deal with an unmanageable workload only to be told you're unproductive. The CEO wants five days a week, not even hybrid, with zero perks. Oh wait, every Tuesday is cake club day. Does STEMCELL supply the cake? No, employees bake their own. A literal "let them eat cake" moment.

Pros

- Some really smart, passionate people across the business (for now) - Remote/hybrid work arrangements (although these are being removed)

Cons

- An insulting company wide email from the CEO essentially saying we're not productive enough and subsequently implementing a full time RTO mandate (a month prior we were all told that RTO was a couple of years away). - 3 rounds of layoffs which were managed horrendously, nobody knew who had been let go unless an email bounced back. - Hiring freeze for 2 years, no pathways to promotions. No backfill approval either leading to increased workloads. - No merit increases for last 2 years, but there's money to acquire multiple other companies - Communication and Change Management have been so poor during layoffs and RTO announcements. - Leadership were unable to answer very basic questions around RTO that should absolutely have been finalized and communicated before announcing. - Leadership has done nothing to instill confidence that they have a plan to weather the sales slumps except for buying companies and laying off teams
