Management plants fake reviews on Glassdoor to try and keep their score higher. So please be skeptical of overly positive reviews. Start.ca was once a great place to work for, especially when they were much smaller. Now that they're at the size and market share they are, their quality as employer has fallen drastically. First of all, the company culture is fake. They plaster their values around the office and reference them constantly, however anytime something is too difficult, those values are thrown right out the window. You will often hear them say that they are not a call centre, that they are something more and better, however they are no different from any other call centre job, and at this point they are much worse! They do not value their employees, especially their front line employees, and will fire anyone with a DISABILITY instead of help making accommodations. They've also fired people who miss time for having CANCER or having a family member who is gravely ill. There is no loyalty whatsoever. In fact, there is a sort of brain drain on the service floor as the many of the more tenured and competent employees have been let go. On top of that, they will ask that you do extra training, but on your own time and unpaid. Due to this high turnover rate, the employees that remain are CONSISTANTLY overworked, which leads to more good employees quitting the company, leaving them in a sort of constant death spiral. Management gaslights you often. They will reassure you that they are there to help and you can speak with them about anything, however if you do come to them they will use your problems against you. They will also lie to you about how well you're doing to manipulate you. And if you try to get help from HR, they will go to your manager and work with them AGAINST you. Finally, salary. They switched to a salary model in which people often make less money than they did and in order to justify firing people easier. This has become a very toxic place to work for. In fact, there are and have been multiple employees taking legal action against Start.ca. IF you have no other options, it's better than being unemployed, however if you have other options, stay away. I am currently in the process of interviewing for a new job and will hopefully be gone soon.
