Pros

Good pay. Nice central location (Vancouver office).

Cons

- Negligent management, why? 1. Leaving numerous employee contracts to the last week or even day of employment without any prior notice of extension is disgusting. Playing with peoples livelihoods should be taken much more seriously. 2. When people come to management with concerns over artist morale, usually due to the aforementioned, it should be again taken seriously and not thrown into the garbage bin of complaints. 3. Stop pigeonholing your artists into staying by deliberately continuing to use niche software that's harder to use and on par if not more expensive than the competition when taking training time into account. - Stephan (CEO) should pick a job and stick to it. If he wants to be CEO then he needs to learn to be more considerate of others and breed a more compassionate working environment to match, there's a reason why the top echelons are full of highly paid sharks because they go unchecked. If he wants to be a VFX Supervisor then go for it, and only it. You're a good supervisor, a little harsh directly and a little militant but you have a great eye for what you want and how to get there and I always appreciated that even when it meant a complete redo. If he wants to push Flowline and maybe fix this issue of pigeonholing a little then step aside from ScanlineVFX and push the software to other studios but properly this time to avoid another MPC fiasco; the software is already an IP of Flowline GmbH and not Scanline.

Pros

They pay you, and you need to eat... Oh and they're really nice during the recruitment process (so you don't believe what you read on here before signing...) Also, when you leave on your last day, you will feel like the end Shawshank redemption, that part is cool..

Cons

- Constant pressure (micromanagement, psychological blackmail, etc.) - Crazy hours - Incompetent producers - Slow pipeline - No consideration towards employees at all. DO NOT relocate for Scanline. When I was working for them they just fired people after they changed country for them, simply because they couldn't manage to land new projects. - Shows are managed by a few workaholics who get absolutely mad if they can't find people at their desk after hours, and cannot conceive that people have life outside the office and therefore think everybody should be as miserable as them

Pros

- They get a lot of big named projects - The work always looks great - They really try to boost morale with large impressive wrap parties and random crew gifts - Some great peers to work with (if they are still around) - Great location in downtown Vancouver

Cons

- They don't trust or appreciate their workers. - Top management is too controlling and not professional when they deal with senior artists. - There are a lot of people in high positions without the necessary experience to be there. (more of a popularity contest and way of moving up) - They expect you to be there 24/7 even if you don't have to. (just because the owners live there, doesn't mean everyone else has to) - Their OT policy is a tad tricky, make sure you read the contracts properly. - They burn out their workers, and basically you can be fired at any moment if something you do or don't do doesn't agree with them on a specific day. - There seems to be internal spies always monitoring and reporting to the owners everyone's business. - Be ready to be called demeaning names as part of the studio culture.
