Pros

As a relatively seasoned startup employee, I've seen the ups and downs of a company in a hyper-growth state. Things break, new people are hired, some leave, but the company mission and vision should always remain the same - This couldn't be more true of Foodee. A passionate group of tech professionals/food enthusiasts working to bring local food culture into the office. I've been at many startups that lose their culture as they grow but Foodee remains the same fun, highly-motivated company I joined a year and a half ago. If you're looking for a 9-5, please check your local bank for job postings. This place fosters young professionals into future leaders, it turns seasoned vets into mentors and role models. Foodee often gives employees the opportunity to take on responsibilities that they would never have in other corporate environments. The management team has done an excellent job of taking into consideration career progression and always has an interest in the personal and professional development of employees.

Cons

It's unfortunate that we've lost folks that haven't had much experience and frankly are just not cut out for the fast-paced, sometimes ambiguous nature of the startup world. I'm sure once they've spent some time outside of Foodee, it will be a quick realization that Foodee is one of the most dynamic places to work.

Co-Workers are great and the locations is very nice.

Cons

Thank you for the feedback. Now that we are scaling rapidly some of our managers are working hard to scale their skills alongside. That's why we've started management training alongside some new senior/seasoned mgmt hires. Frankly, they are as relieved about the support as their teams!

"Culture" isn't everything

Pros

The only reason I am leaving an extra star in the rating is due to the people working on the front line of this company. It is the only saving grace. There are many talented, intelligent, determined, very fun people to share your day to day with, who are working like dogs to make up for the overbearing cracks and downfalls of Foodee. It is a shame that they end up bound to the false promises and awful executions that have been playing in a constant loop for years. Get out while you can! There are many companies better suited for you that WILL pay you your works worth, that WILL value what you put in, you WILL be rewarded, and the tasks you take on WILL be a lot more fun and challenging.

Cons

The churn rate should speak for itself. If an employee isn't fired or unexpectedly terminated, they are running out the door cursing the toxicity of the place. But "it's a startup thing" right? Higher level leaders are awful and arrogant (with the exception of maybe two), and you won't count on them for any real type of goal setting, performance management, useful advice or solutions. What you will get is avoidance of real issues, low level knowledge and understanding or care of day to day barriers, and many, many pointless meetings that lead to zero improvements on the product, the offerings, the client satisfaction, or the happiness of their employees. The main thing they care for is the $$$ for the big guys. They rely heavily on their sales team to keep things afloat and encourage selling things they do not offer, which puts all other departments in a predicament. There is very little room for growth, and they rarely promote within. If you don't consistently work 9-12 hour days, you will be looked down upon or lose your job regardless of their attempt at saying or doing otherwise. They call themselves a tech company, but their product/tool is down or having major issues on both the internal and client facing side at least 50% of the time. They call themselves a catering company, and have very little respect, rewards or improvements for the restaurants and owners they are taking from. They pride themselves on customer satisfaction yet follow through on their offerings at a minimal level.

We're not greedy or boastful, awful or arrogant. I agree with you that our little company is full of "many talented, intelligent, determined, very fun people to share your day with." We have had very little unwanted employee churn but we've had to part ways with some folks in the past. I'm sorry it didn't work out. At Foodee, you can Work from Home 2 days a week and we are pretty much 40hr weeks but many of our team are highly motivated and out in more. Every staff has WeWork memberships for flex desks or managed offices. Our product is largely bug free today and has been for the past 6 months. Our restaurant partners are our greatest asset and we treat them as such. I sometimes think our attention to detail on this front has held us back wrt growth at any cost. Overall our employee satisfaction is 90% on our internal anonymous survey. One of our Foodee values is Ownership - meaning we take 'pride in our work', we are accountable and as such the company gives ownership (equity) in return.
