Pros

-Manulife owns John Hancock, so you can leverage that for your next job -They offer a generous 10k mental health benefit. (you will need it) -There are some good people there, but unfortunately, they are outnumbered.

Cons

-Pay is incredibly low, starting as low as 40k CAD for a job that will overwork you to your core -They expect you to "pay your dues" and complete hundreds of internal exams, training, continued learning, to be completed in your free time, only to then increase your pay by 1-2k max a year. -The way they are set up currently, you would need 3 promotions which take on average 1-2 years to finally reach the 50k mark -Your every move is micromanaged. You are tracked on every call, email, and everything you do. If you log off a second early or end a call a second early, you'll be scrutinized. -The company will completely ignore the concerns and voices of their employees. They were trying to push employees into the office even though this uninspiring job can be completed working from home. Probably so they could micromanage in person. -They laid off the majority of the staff that worked hard to keep the company running during the pandemic and replaced them with employees in Asia. -They laid off Canadian staff in Toronto and replaced them with cheaper employees in Halifax and that project completely failed. -Their customers are the most demanding, draining, people to work with. Constantly throwing tantrums and making demands, bullying us, using vulgar language, making threats. When brought up to management for support, you'll be told to "suck it up" and keep catering to these toxic customers because your bonus and potential promotions are tied to score cards and reviews they write about you each quarter.

Pros

John Hancock is a part of Manulife so it is a big company with "tons" of opportunities for movement. The office space is pretty nice in Halifax.

Cons

The position is a call center job that also requires a ton of knowledge on financial and technical matters. They tell you that you do not need to be a pro or understand the information simply be able to direct clients to it. False. Clients expect you to know everything. You have to know everything about 200+ retirement plans, funds, audits, setting up payroll, everything. All for the low pay of 40-45K. This position should pay 55-60K at least. The turnover is insane. I have seen about 60% of people quit within their first 3 months. Also you can not move within the company until you have a year expierence.

Pros

1) good people below senior management 2) good benefits

Cons

1) Big social media campaign to "pay it forward", and claims of taking care of employee mental and financial health, then follow on to lay off hundreds of employees with no notice. 2) DEI and ERG efforts look good on paper only 3) IT Career framework that went nowhere
