Pros

Hours and benefits are standard. There are some really wonderful, hard-working and knowledgeable people there.

Cons

Corporate culture is an issue, especially for women. Management is almost entirely a boys club. They keep trying to change things up by hiring and promoting more middle-aged white guys. "New" ideas are mostly just repeating what didn't work. No upward mobility in positions or salary (maybe more mobility if you start at the very bottom?). They pay as little as they can get away with and will minimize accomplishments to keep people in line. They do promote from within, but they don't seem to support the right people in this. I'm always shocked by the incapable people who are rewarded and the hard-working, effective people who are overlooked. Corporate staff are paid to work an 8 hour day (paid for 7.5) but seem to be expected to work at least 9. Many work more than that consistently.

Pros

Decent discount 40% off and sample sale. Canadian Tire does offer a few days off of the year to enjoy a ball game or holiday for all employees.

Cons

What you negotiate at the door is what you'll be receiving - forever. The organization as a whole is like an ant colony without the queen. Everything takes months to approve. Every project is over budget. Every manager is a numbers manager. Great place if you want to just get by with a static paycheck and some clothing discounts, but you will shortly be disappointed if you're looking for any career advancement or to be better compensated.

Pros

When I first joined Mark's the culture was collaborative and fostered feedback from the fiield, specifically the Store Leaders. I felt that my contribution to the company was valued and felt well compensated and rewarded for the work that I did.

Cons

In 2013 with the new Senior Leadership from FGL took over the culture changed to a strict dictatorship and unprofessional work environment! I have been in the retail industry for almost 20 years and worked with many DM's and Senior Team Leaders but I have never experienced the level of unprofessional conduct and business practices that these Senior Leaders demonstrated.
