I have never experienced a toxic workplace as bad as Pet Circle. Everyone is over worked, underpaid, and exhausted from the constant “restructuring”. You may be able to form close relationships with your coworkers but Pet Circle loves to routinely clean house and start fresh when people begin to question the lack of leadership and management from the upper levels. During my time at Pet Circle I was constantly working under the stress of consistently changing direct managers and unattainable goals. Everyone is doing the job of multiple people and when the exec make the call to make already spread thin teams smaller using sham redundancies there is no support/compensation. The best they will do is bring in employees from other departments as “secondments” to work the now empty roles (even if those employees have no experience or interest in the business area/role). Upper level managers refuse to take accountability for their business decisions and instead throw lower employees under the bus. It’s even better that these people are the only ones taking salary increases each year and receiving bonuses. Salary review at PC is non existent and they do not offer bonuses so don’t expect anymore than the amount you sign on your contract. Especially if you are a woman, push hard on that sign on number. The gender pay gap is alive and well at Pet Circle. The worst part is the promises of “it’s going to get better” that you will hear year after year. Just when you are finally gaining up your confidence to leave they will love bomb you until you stay. It truly is like an abusive relationship being a part of this organisation.
