Pros

$3000 a year in mental health counselling, because you'll need it working here

Cons

Given their experience, leadership has little qualification to run a publicly traded company, and it shows. Many at the top were self promoted, as they displayed characteristics that can only be described as an antithesis to the focused, empathetic, and thoughtful leaders that have long left the company. The current leadership jumps between priorities frequently, rushing into and then abandoning half-baked initiatives, all the while citing their "flywheel" diagram as justification (the real flywheel appears to rotate between losing money and performing layoffs). The pinnacle of their managerial excellence has been displayed with 40% of total staff being laid off in under 10 months. It's an amazing feat to be so consistent at being so terrible with growth miscalculations. Rarely does leadership exercise introspection on their actions and will frequently blame external events for their own shortcomings (rising interest rates, war in Ukraine, the overall tech environment); it's embarrassing. The truth is their poor performance was occurring long before these events. They underutilized and placed staff on pointless and fruitless endeavours with little thought, and then act dumbfounded when it made no impact on revenue. Unsurprisingly, those involved with these strategies still remain at the company, seemingly immune to consequence or resignation. Worst of all, there is a consistent softening of language for negative events resulting from their poor decisions, and a sense of them trying to control the narrative, which I found condescending (calling laid off employees Thinkific Alumni, self congratulations on how empathetic they are/making everyone well aware of it, the fake toxic positivity etc). This has been chipping away at employee morale, with no sense of job security for those who remain. Overall, it felt like a poor experience and a waste of time. In my opinion, this company is destined to fail as long as the current leadership is at the helm. So if you're looking to apply, I would skip this third rate company. You deserve better than what this place offers, and your talents can be utilized elsewhere.

A Sad Decline

Pros

When I first started here it was an amazing company with great benefits, great people, and a general optimistic outlook. The work was hard but worthwhile. Upon leaving this company, I find only a few good people remain. The optimism is gone.

Cons

After the most recent layoffs, it's clear that this company is no longer the shining tech beacon it once was. With each round of layoffs, the C Suite become less compassionate and less involved. It's evident that diversity is no longer a goal for this company, as many of the laid off employees were minorities and the panel they've put together to "work on diversity issues" are merely a powerless virtue signal. It's sad to see how far this former top employer has fallen. It seems apparent that they knew about the layoffs in December, yet, chose to delay them until mid-January. As one of my colleagues pointed out, they chose not to gift Christmas presents this year except to those people who they chose to keep on, despite not laying anyone off until mid-January. The company is still planning to fly all of their employees out to Vancouver, one week after the layoffs, for a two day fully paid no-work company wide event. Clearly no thought or consideration was given to the dozens of laid off employees who were told to rearrange plans and book flights to attend this mandatory event, and then told one week beforehand they were being let go. They continue to push the narrative that they care, but their actions clearly prove otherwise. If I had any advice to give potential hires: don't waste your time. You will be valued more highly at another company, without the fake congeniality and constant looming threat of unemployment.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are sorry about some of these experiences at Thinkific. We know there has been a lot of change to navigate as we've had to pivot. Although we had to let go of some exceptional team members, we used our core values (choose ethics and integrity, transparency, strive for equality) to make the best decisions possible considering the circumstances. The holiday boxes were late in delivery due to logistical issues and were offered to all Thinkific Alumni - we encourage you to contact our People team if you would still like your holiday box as we have one for everyone! We're big fans of Radical Candor and really appreciate your feedback - we will use this information to be better in the future. Thank you again and we wish you nothing but the best.

Pros

- nice coworkers - flexible hours and location - nice office - compensation and benefits

Cons

- state of company and product is not like they sell during interview process. several people leave shortly after joining because of this. - leadership is deceitful. CEO told employees *numerous* times they didnt have to worry about layoffs. no honesty about performance of company - no racial diversity for VP and above and on board of directors. DE&I doesnt apply to leadership. - decisions all top-down, rationale not shared and people expected to just go with it.
