Thanks for acknowledging Tulip has built an industry leading product! We also agree Tulip has some of the nicest employees around! Our number one corporate value is "Invest in People". Our goal is to be the best place to work and grow for all of our employees. We also deeply care about building a team environment, where healthy debate and disagreement is encouraged -- because that's how great innovation happens. So we're sorry your experience at Tulip is not as positive as we'd like it to be. Tulip takes clear, equitable career growth very seriously. We want everyone to know the company goals, as well as have clarity on how their individual work contributes to the bigger picture. In 2019, we did a big launch of our new Goal Setting program to ensure we don't get complacent and everyone is clear on what they need to do in 2019 and beyond! We'd love your feedback on the new program as we continue to develop it! We welcome all feedback and if you don't feel comfortable going to your Manager please contact Employee Success to discuss any of your concerns.

Pros

The people building the product, primarily developers and designers, are a great bunch. Supportive, fun to hang out with, generally interesting. The kinds of co-workers one wants to interact with. Work/Life balance is valued and, depending on what team you end up on (see cons) it's fairly low-stress. Career advancement is definitely possible but, again, this depends what team you end up on.

Cons

There are big organizational and management problems in the software department. Teams don't coordinate so nobody knows what anyone else is doing. Decisions get made and nobody knows why or by whom. Because the teams are divided up with unclear and sometimes actually conflicting delineation of responsibility, there's friction. It's not clear who calls the shots so often times conflicting calls get made, only to surface after work has been completed and people are left asking "how did this happen?" It really feels like there are 4 separate software departments each with their own cultures and ideas about how to work. Then, once in a while, the CEO will appear and mandate something as specific as how the code is structured. Whether or not you have an opportunity to advance as a dev and do what you want to do, and how much stress you're under, really depends on what team you end up on. Even whether or not you can switch teams completely depends on where you are.

It is so nice to see the kind words you have for our staff, product and work/life balance! We agree that the people who work here are wonderful to interact with. We have been working to fix the collaboration between our teams and have seen significant improvements since we have made these changes. We are also documenting all of our decisions so that they are available in the future. While we still have areas of improvement, we are moving in the right direction and have heard feedback from staff commenting that the improvements have been positive and improving. Our recent employee survey scores in this area have shown significant improvement over the past year.

Not what it seems

Pros

- peers are ok. highly technical environment so able to learn Mobile technology. - compensation is ok. - good role if you're freshie out of Computer Science school.

Cons

- high level management isn't able to effective manage people. - constant change in leadership roles and in key senior positions. - poor morale because staff is overworked. - highly political, if you're not on the radar with senior management, you have no chance to advance, get support. Very Black or White in how you are 'marked'. - expect to work long hours for long periods. Its a marathon with no end in sight. You better have stamina. - Management listens to its own press despite very clear indication of what it needs to do to improve. - No transparency so what is said and broadcast isn't really the reality of what is happening on the back end. - No one to turn to for support. Not a Team based environment despite what it looks to be.
