Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day. Around 15 percent of the world’s population, or estimated 1 billion people, live with disabilities. They are the world’s largest minority. At Thomson Reuters, to help make good on our promise to customers, our products and solutions first need to be accessible to all users, including those with disabilities and those who rely on assistive technology to access and use our content. That means we endeavor to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1AA. Examples of this include ensuring our products are keyboard accessible, providing contrast between text and its background for readability, ensuring that form fields have properly associated labels, and providing alternative text for images to convey meaning. Learn more about how we accelerated our digital accessibility timeline for a key product, Case Center, in our 2023 Social Impact and ESG Report.
It's time for our first #BeYouAtTR feature of Asian Heritage Month. We're excited to spotlight Chris, a Digital Operations Lead in Toronto. "Asian Heritage Month holds special significance for me. As a Canadian-born individual of Chinese descent, I wasn't fully immersed in Chinese customs growing up. This month is an opportunity to learn more about my own culture, and the cultures of other Asian groups, which I plan to share with my two young children. As a Co-lead of the Asian Affinity Network in Toronto, my goal is to create an environment that is not only informative for our Asian community but also increases awareness and allyship throughout the office. My vision is to contribute to an office culture in Toronto that is dynamic and inclusive – an environment where everyone can feel free to be their authentic selves while enjoying their work."
We are only a few weeks away from the 2024 IMPACTathon! IMPACTathon is an annual hackathon where Thomson Reuters employees utilize their skills for social good, offering pro bono consulting to nonprofits in need of strategic or capacity building support. With a range of projects spanning across all functional areas, they provide solutions during this 5-hour event. To give you a glimpse into the experience, listen to the story of one of our team members who participated in last year's IMPACTathon. "I was fortunate enough to be paired with the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), a national organization founded in 1974 that protects and promotes the civil rights of Asian Americans. Our team partnered with AALDEF to support their culture and change management efforts, including thinking through their hybrid work model. We also recommended a change management framework they could use now and in the future. I feel that often we forget that it’s not just the people with advanced degrees or technological skills that can do pro-bono work — IMPACTathon was a great reminder that we all have something to offer." Sweta, Talent Development Solutions Lead, United States

Thomson Reuters is committed to reducing its environmental impact globally. On Earth Day, we would like to highlight an employee-led group in Costa Rica that participates in sustainable activities to make a difference in their communities. Our teammates in Costa Rica are committed to reducing their impact on the environment. Last year, a group of employees participated in Global Volunteer Day by organizing a beach cleanup in one of the most polluted beaches in the country. A total of 50 employees collected more than 53 garbage bags of trash, preserving the beauty of natural spaces in Costa Rica for future generations. In addition, the Costa Rica Global Volunteer Network received the Bandera Azul Award, an annual award given to recognize effort and voluntary work for conservation and development, the protection of natural resources, the implementation of actions to address climate change, and the improvement of public health for the Costa Rica population.
