Did you know that at Thomson Reuters, we get 16 hours of paid volunteer time annually? Matt, a Director of New Zealand Market Development, reflected on a recent volunteering experience with colleagues. "It was a fantastic day, involving work to remove a lot of blackberry in preparation for a new Takahe pen to keep the Takahe safe during a rodent eradication programme in the future. As a reward, we had a brief and unplanned encounter with a baby Tuatara - a fantastic reminder of the significant benefits delivered by all the hard work to create this predator-free environment. Many thanks to my fantastic colleagues and the team at Zealandia for a great day." Have you volunteered recently? Share your experiences below!
“New year, new role, and a new addition to the family! In August, I had the immense honor of welcoming my sweet baby boy into the world. As a professional woman, navigating the decision to start a family can be overwhelming, especially with the considerations of 'when' and the potential impact on career advancement. I remember the internal debate about whether to have children before or after a promotion. Ultimately, I decided not to let a professional role dictate the timing of such a personal milestone. Making this choice was difficult, but I knew it was the right decision for me. Reflecting on this journey, I recall my apprehension as I prepared for maternity leave. There was a genuine concern that the momentum I had built over the past years would slow, potentially impacting future opportunities. Thankfully, I work with strong and inspiring leaders who not only supported me during this time but presented me with a promotion while I was on maternity leave. Stories like mine are not typical, however. Unfortunately, many women on maternity leave may not find their manager advocating for them or considering them for promotion during this time. I share my journey with the hope of inspiring other leaders. It's essential to provide support and acknowledge the growth potential of individuals, even during significant life events like parental leave.” Heather, Director, Client Management, United States Learn more about our Parental Leave benefit and Flex My Way program:
