Pros

- best school to get into sales - top product and recent funding is very promising - company is well positioned to see more growth in the future - work with young and driven folks who are go getters and some of best sellers in the game - if you success at Ebury you can success anywhere

Cons

- you have to have the will to build a career in sales - cut throat but the price is there to get over the long run - full time in office - dress code every day of the week

Thank you for your review - this is such a good overview of the Pros and Cons of a sales role so will be useful for anyone considering joining the team. As you correctly say, the skills you learn in the role of a Business Developer are a brilliant foundation for any future career. Wishing you continued success with Ebury!

Pros

If you get promoted (which is extremely difficult), you can get a trip to Spain for the company conference. I'd rather earn more money and pay for my own trip.

Cons

**They had us write fake reviews to combat how poorly the company was looking on here. We wanted to keep our jobs so a lot of us did.** They don't tell you hours are 8:00 to 5:30 when you start, thinking it's a normal 9-5. They also let you leave half an hour early if you've hit 2 straight hours of call time. Otherwise, there's very little incentive to do anything else in terms of prospecting. It's a call centre (only care about minutes) but they still make you wear a shirt and dress pants or a dress. No other ambition or initiative is recognized unless you're bringing revenue through the door. It's a highly competitive industry so your normal revenue is like $20-100 per deal and they expect you to hit $85,000 before they give you a raise. Pay is at the bottom of the market for the industry, and every other FX company typically pays $10-15,000 more with better brand recognition and a larger customer base, so sales are easier. The people in the office are nice, and I actually got along well with most of them but everyone mostly has this malaise because everyone knows the office is going nowhere. More tracking, more metrics, more pressure from management because there's more pressure on them. I'll give it to some managers who aren't snapping on the team daily because of how much pressure they're under. But really, nothing works because they shouldn't have entered the North American market. And when the office inevitably underperforms, the targets are even higher the next quarter. Head office continually makes promises of great revenue, amazing opportunities, promotions, and expansion into new territories but really the office sees one to two promotions per year and they're so insignificant that the person ends up quitting anyway almost immediately afterward. There is nothing bad to say about most of the people in the office. You'll probably make a decent friend or two, but if you're looking for career growth, a normal 9-5, opportunity, money, or even anything other than smile and dial this is the wrong company to join. They'll probably have some response about how successful their BD's have been historically but those are in massive markets like Paris and London. North America has literally zero opportunity, and any opportunity that does arise is usually given to a top performer from Germany, the Netherlands, or some other European office to appease them. North America is the armpit of this company and has never been a priority.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, and we are sorry that you did not have a positive experience with us. We would like to assure you that we have never forced employees to write a Glassdoor review and this is in fact impossible to do as reviews are 100% anonymous. We follow a thorough recruitment process involving multiple interviews. In this process we would have explained the working hours, dress code and the nature of the work, however we apologise if you feel you were not told this information. Your point about the Canadian market being competitive is true, which can lead to stress and pressure. We appreciate that sales is a tough role that does require a lot of calls and this is not for everyone (especially true during these uncertain times). To help our Eburians deal with this stress, we have organised weekly virtual exercise classes including HIIT, Yoga and Guided Meditation. Regarding salaries and promotions, we have a strong meritocratic culture that rewards success, hard-work and achievements through fast career and salary progression opportunities. This is true for all Ebury markets including North America. To support employees progress their careers, we have provided extensive training sessions locally and globally and even increased these during Covid. We are continuing to see many people wanting to join Ebury Canada. We have taken your feedback on-board and would like to assure you that we are constantly working to improve the employee experience across Ebury.

Pros

Makes you employable for other jobs. 3 weeks vacation is above the average of 2 weeks for entry-level. Good location.

Cons

You will not make any commission. The FX space is a low margin industry so don't expect getting a promotion at all, unless you manage to last 3 years (you wont). Management is clueless and provides no freedom in how you can reach your KPIs, they only care about the dials, you will basically dial for dollars. Read positive reviews with a bowl of salt not just a grain.
