Pros

- I really cannot say there were any pros other than being able to browse the internet during slow times and have my coffee up at the desk with me.

Cons

Where do I begin. - No security at my hotel, so there were always homeless people/drunk or high people wandering in and asking to use the phone or making a scene. - Was always working alone during my shift which was 3-11. Being a small female, this scared me because we had no security. - There were only about 3 other people working in the hotel when I was. Two waitresses who I would only see when they were going home, and the houseman who was always down in housekeeping. - The cops were in the hotel at least once a week either taking statements or actually RAIDING the hotel regarding crimes such illegal guns in rooms, overdoses, prostitution, credit card fraud and crazy drug parties. - No breaks because the desk could not be un-manned. - No benefits. - Training was terrible. Half the time I was making stuff up in order to avoid customer conflict. Trainer did not mention how to deal with disgruntled guests who would yell and scream profanities at you. They actually didn't mention that these guests were quite common, either. - No training on what to do if there is a fire, a bomb threat, a shooting, etc. This made me uncomfortable because technically when I was working, I was responsible for all the guests in the hotel. - No bellman or concierge. - Front doors were just open for anyone to come in at any time. No key needed after a certain hour. - Would come home crying and shaking multiple nights after hearing about police raids or after being yelled and sworn at by guests for just doing my job. - I have worked in customer service for over a decade and have never experienced customers like I have here.

Pros

Corporate employees generally care about their role in the overall success of the individual hotels they serve as well as the guests and the overall reputation of the company

Cons

Corporate restructuring has changed the level and quality of corporate support available to successful hotels due to much focus on underperforming locations which further erodes the quality and reputation of the brand
