Pros and Cons

Pros

flexibile schedule, autonomy, supportive leadership (generally).

Cons

compensation. You are driving A LOT. No more mileage allowance. No extra gas allowance. You use your own cell phone and receive no extra compensation for this, either. Caseload can ebb and flow so hours aren't always guaranteed. No paid sick time or vacation time. No pension plan. The hourly wage charged to the client is high. Therapist takes home a small portion of that. FA is pocketing a lot of money and I'm not sure where it's all going. As I write this out I realize there may be more cons than pros. I don't see myself staying with this organization long term because of the cons I have listed.

Pros

You have the autonomy to create your own schedule You receive 1:1 support monthly and the option for more if needed You have autonomy over your caseload

Cons

Therapists are held accountable for deadlines related to case notes and reports I have not been able to locate in policies and procedures how supervisors and managers are held accountable for deadlines or turn around times related to editing reports It is a "for profit" organization so although you have autonomy over caseload please ensure you "bring home the money" You receive a 1/3 or less per hour in pay than what the organization receives per hour When you first start there is training, it is intense but you do not have enough time to process all of it - important information gets lost There is no consistency when supervisors edit reports; sometimes the way you write is good and then in another report it's not good enough and you are left not knowing what to do Case Reviews - interesting to say the least! They say come prepared, umm supervisor should come prepared because stuff you are talking to me about has already been resolved; did you not read the emails? They claim work/life balance but only when you have billed sufficiently

Pros

Get a taste of what it is to work for yourself (but only a taste).

Cons

Terrible management with zero sense of leadership style. I was tricked into leaving a stable and rewarding hospital career to work for Function-Ability Rehabilitation Services but the moment management is questioned, you are fired, without warning or any support provided from any member of the management/ownership team. a true CARNIVAL of drama.
