the pay, programming, culture and leadership is stuck in the 1990s. time to evolve.
Pros
the people - fun, welcoming, eager to pitch in and help when they can. the view - hard to beat the setting, when you're able to work onsite.
Cons
where to begin? instituted layoffs, "salary freezes" and "hiring freezes" during COVID... which didn't seem to apply when it came to hiring new staff (predominately white men) to work on the CEO's pet projects tone deaf. calls itself 'international' arts organization that champions diversity and inclusion... but outside of february, internal programming is overwhelmingly from predominately white countries (australia, UK, the nordics, NZ....). they outsource to external parties for LGBTQ* and BIPOC focused-programming. the CEO lacks leadership abilities and a concrete plan to enact their vision for the organization (what IS the CEO's vision? impossible to say, she's an enigma that doesn't seem to even like HC/toronto/canada very much... she always seems to be away, traveling). senior management is disengaged, disorganized and ineffective. their priorities and plans change day-to-day, so nothing gets accomplished. always trying to change course midstream. cut back portions of our benefits plan during a pandemic. gives a lot of lip service to supporting employee "health and wellness", but doesn't implement policies to "walk the talk". nothing to support staff working from home during COVID... everyone is expected to provide their own technology, software, etc. on their own dime... even a $100 Best Buy gift card to help support the "new normal" would've been a nice gesture. or a couple discretionary (paid) "mental health days". they do not pay a living wage that's aligned with the expectations they have for staff and the downtown toronto location of the organization. they do not promote from within - they always go with outside hires for senior roles, career growth potential is nil.
