Not a great place to work

Pros

Some leaders are understanding and accommodating. Some ability to work from home (2-3 days a week) currently but the CEO was clear that he didn’t care about the benefits to employees working from home and is fixated on bringing staff back into the office, likely full time. I am certain he has other things he should be focusing on.

Cons

There is a culture of fear of the executive leadership team. Inefficiency and confusion are the name of the game. Sooo much wasted time and effort. Lack of decision making or constant changing of direction. Unclear roles and responsibilities. Combined, this results in a terrible, toxic work environment. It’s sad because there is so much potential for Metrolinx to be the most amazing employer. Essentially if you care about your job and giving the taxpayer their moneys worth, this IS NOT the place for you. I am less than a year in and already looking to leave.

Pros

Great benefits Work life balance (working from home) Pleasant employees

Cons

Nepotism - Directors and Managers are hired not based on qualification/credentials but rather on friendship. Ignorance - the upper management lacks common sense let know knowledge in the field they oversee. This leads to poor management of employees and misleading staff with poor directions. HR - Their HR division is nothing short of a disaster. Salary reviews are common at Metrolinx because the HR doesn’t do their research on industry standard when assigning a pay band to a newly created position. Poor management skills - Managers need training in managing staff and conflict resolution. No concept of foresight and employee issues are not addressed in a timely manner resulting in a high turnover rate. This company is incapable of retaining talent. Check their turnover rate.

Pros

Some good staff but they are too scared to do the right things.

Cons

1. Nepotism runs rampant leading to unqualified management. Hiring and promotions without proper competition. This is not private sector! 2. More layers of management than most corporations making billions in revenue. This is the way to increase salaries for buddies when the rest of the province is under a wage freeze. 3. Playing with numbers to make results and business cases look better. 4. Bullying and back-stabbing is rampant. Leadership is useless.
