Pros

The animals, of course. With management, they have an open door policy but really depends who your managers are. Otherwise, this would be an enjoyable job if you like caring for animals and educating customers about animals. The amount of bad customers decreases as you get further from being a cashier. Being in pet care generally means less bad customers. Being a stocker means you don't have to deal with as many customers. While being at cash = bad customers galore.

Cons

There's a lot of work to do in Pet Care and stocking and they expect you to finish it all and it's not possible. If you have a strict manager, it will quickly become very stressful. There aren't enough employees on the floor some times and that creates problems. And I was never properly trained so I had to learn everything on my own in my own time, especially knowledge about animals. If you don't know anything about reptiles or birds or small animals, you can get by in Pet Care. But if you know nothing about fish, that's a problem. So many customers come in looking for fish to keep but they have bad ideas that lead to cruel lives for them. The bettas are the most abused fish and PetSmart needs to better their care and education about them. They can't live in cups or small 0.5 G cubes. They need heated tanks of at least 2.5G to thrive.

Pros

I got the opportunity to learn a trade and pursue a dream career path. Dental and medical benefits, paid vacation & sick days. The security of a base rate of pay on top of weekly commissions. I don't have to seek out my own clients, I can just come to work and groom. The security of knowing you are insured against any grooming incidents or injuries. Charitable donations and work with adoption partners to improve the lives of rescue and foster animals.

Cons

Negative Corporate culture since New Ownership in 2015 - largely focused solely on $$. Staff are treated as 'cannon fodder' churned and burned to make as much $$ as possible. I don't feel as though I am valued as an individual and team morale is extremely low. Blatant favoritism and bullying behavior portrayed by poor and unprofessional Management. Extremely stressful conditions and constantly being pushed to sell more. Forced to work every weekend and holidays etc.

Pros

Company used to care about their people . Passionate people need to be cared for . In an industry that deals with pet parents "children" you need care ! Petsmart had great people but thanks to the drive to pay back the 8.7 billion the people have been forgotten .

Cons

Where to start .... Upper management is a joke ! HR what's that?? If your willing to be a yes man you will survive , although you will lose your identity and be just a number . Everyone is out for themselves , watch your back and keep your head down cause as soon as you speak something they do not like you are black listed . New CEO is a fraud and has not stood by one thing he spoke of since coming in ! He is hiding under a rock and has his Payless army doing his dirty work ! The company tries to convince the teams that the new structure provides more hours which is false ! It's yet another money grabbing scam. Don't let anyone convince you there are "opportunities " it's a lie !
